A former black thumb, Yujin’s interest in orchids grew after being introduced to the the fragrant “coconut orchid” species maxillaria tenuifolia by a friend at the 2019 POE. After successfully keeping the orchid alive for a year, and with renewed confidence in growing plants, she returned to POE in 2020 to add a few more to her collection. Once the pandemic hit, collecting orchids became a hobby and the collection is now close to 50 plants and expanding.
Yujin’s other interests are in neuroscience (working in biotech), good wine and spending time with her two Australian shepherd dogs.
