Having grown up in the Sacramento Valley, Lauren had early exposure to working with plants, spending weekends turning the compost pile in her family's backyard and summers helping out on her family friend's farm.
But it wasn't until she moved to the Bay Area after six years of living and attending college in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that Lauren took up gardening as a hobby. What began as a weekend project to start a native pollinator garden eventually led her to enroll in a few horticulture classes at San Francisco City College.
It was there that she heard about the San Francisco Orchid Show, which she attended for the first time in 2018... and the rest is history! Thanks to their wide habitat range and genetic diversity, as well as their cult-like following, orchid cultivation has proved a beautiful way to learn about the world and engage with the Bay Area community.
Lauren currently lives in Berkeley and works as a filmmaker and documentary producer.
Lauren has served on the SFOS Board since 2019 and membership chair as of 2020.
