Details:
Jis Sebastian is a young but motivated conservationist who is working with local peoples in the Western Ghats, a region of India that is rich in orchid species and in sore need of conservation efforts to preserve what remains of orchid habitats. Part of her project is educating and training local people, students etc. in orchid biology. It is very difficult and very expensive for her and her colleagues to obtain orchid literature, and we (The San Francisco Orchid Society) are organizing a book shipment to help out with these endeavors. They are looking for books on the following topics:
1. Orchid flora of states, countries, and regions mainly in Asia
2. Orchid farming: culture, growing and management, value addition, and commercialization
3. Orchid biotechnology
4. Orchid biology- physiology, seed, mycorrhizal associations
5. Orchid conservation - epiphytic and terrestrial orchids
6. Orchid stories- stories related to orchid hunting, collection, conservation, etc
Some books that we would like to have but are not affordable:
1. Darwins orchids then and now edited by Retha Edens-Meier and Peter Bernhardt
2. Terrestrial orchids: From seed to mycotrophic plant by Hanne N Rasmussen
3. Orchid biology: recent trends and challenges by Springer
4. Modern methods in Orchid Conservation by HW Pritchard
NOTE: we are NOT looking for old copies of Orchid Digest or Orchids Magazine.
If you have some books that you feel would relate to these needs, please contact Mary Gerritsen ([email protected])
Thank you!
