The 2014 Pacific Orchid Exposition Gala Benefited::

The Pacific Orchid Exposition's Gala Benefit Preview
“Orchids…and All that Jazz”

The San Francisco Orchid Society was thrilled at the success of its 62nd Annual Gala Benefit Preview Night, held February 20th, 2014 at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.

Guests enjoyed delicious hors d'ouevres and pate provided by Les Trois Petite Cochons. As they meandered through a seas of beautiful orchids, they sipped on wines from some of California's premiere wineries and listened to live music from The Valerie V Vibe.  Zico Coconut Water was also there to offer refreshments for thirsty patrons as they shopped and viewed exhibits.

Celebrity broadcaster and "Foodie Chap" Liam Mayclem served as the emcee for the evening and joined many other notable names, including sponsors from the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, CBS San Francisco, EVA airlines and China Airlines. The San Francisco Orchid Society (SFOS) was humbled to receive a special proclamation from Senator Mark Leno touting their achievements in orchid research and education.

The Gala Benefit Preview serves as the major annual fundraiser for the San Francisco Orchid Society (SFOS), a 501 (c) (3) organization. The SFOS donated $5 of every Gala ticket sold to both the Conservatory of Flowers and the U.C. Botanical Garden at Berkeley. These horticultural institutions both house unique orchid collections and make it possible for the public to enjoy rare, exotic, and endangered species of plants.

Many attendees enjoyed the Live Auction feature, which offered an international cruise from Azamara Club Cruises. Fred and Jan Anderson were the lucky bidders and were excited to start planning their trip to any port in which Azamara sails. Also offered was a Botanical Garden membership and a fabulous trip to South Africa from Ezulwini Lodge, won by society president Mary Gerritsen.

One of the new features this year was a special outdoor lounge, sponsored by Acura, as well as exciting test drives of the new Acura RLX model.

The Gala Benefit Preview was the first chance to purchase some of the best orchids before the show opened to the general public, and true orchid aficionados came out in droves to secure the most prized orchids featured.

All in all, the evening was a fantastic success . Don't forget to save the date for the next year's Gala Benefit Preview, scheduled for Thursday, February 19th, 2015 from 6:30-10:00pm at Fort Mason's Festival Pavilion. See you there!
